It may have only just started, but the WSOP Circuit event at Caesar’s has already seen plenty of high profile casualties. Clearly, no one wanted to mess around in getting to the $648,320 first prize and having started the day with 209 players, the event wound up with only 64 going into day two.
Amongst the early fallers were TJ Cloutier, knocked out on the very first hand, Phil Ivey, Alan Goehring and Michael Mizrachi. Thanks to these guys heading for the exit, those left were able to build up substantial chip stacks, with Scotty Nguyen and Erick Lindgren both capitalising. The remaining 64 players start today and will be whittled down to just 27 before returning to battle it out for the big cash.
If the first day is anything to go by, then the whole thing should not take long to finish. With big names gone, then there’s every chance that someone who really needs the money could come up with the right cards and take it.
