Betfair has recently seen its revenue increase by a third recently, an improvement which has been attributed to its new online casino coupled with successful marketing. The surge seems to also to have been caused by the increase in active users on the site, which jumped by more than a half to nearly 470,000 users in April.
As well as the brand new poker software, Betfair secured new customers who used the site for either the betting exchange or for the occasional flutters after the football World Cup in the summer of 2006. Of course, it also gained support of many seasoned poker players after it sponsored the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe in September.
The company also signed the winner, Internet and now live game phenomenon Annette Obrestad, as a member of its pro player team, as well as having sponsored her during the event itself. Obrestad is sure to go on to win more tournaments, and so the shrewd signing of the European Main Event winner should secure Betfair even more business.
The company is showing an increased dedication to the poker industry, having sponsored the ‘Betfair Poker Masters of Europe’ series back in May as well as the WSOPE itself, and the support of the larger betting firms certainly bodes well for poker in Europe and beyond.
