Berger Bags a Bracelet as Crain Rises

Friday, 7 June 2013

Levi Berger became claimed today’s only WSOP bracelet after overcoming a tough final table in the $2,500 No Limit Hold’em six max event.

The American grinder held the chip lead for much of the final session but as the field whittled itself down from 14 to a final table of six he gradually relinquished his grip on the tournament. However, despite not having the largest stack at the table, Berger continued to press the action and after a series of ups and down he soon found himself squaring off against Scott Clements.

While he might not have had the skill edge over Clements, Berger certainly had the heart and after a back-and-forth battle the non-bracelet holder soon claimed his first title with pocket kings. With the flop showing 8d 7s 2s, Berger was happy to call Clements all-in and when the cards were on their backs he saw that he needed to fade Clements straight draw with Th 9s.

A tense turn and river unfolded, but after the dealer offered Clements no help, the final pot was pushed towards Berger along with $473,019 and his first WSOP bracelet.

Elsewhere in the Rio, Event #12 saw a final table led by Eric Crain take shape. Having already earned himself a fourth place finish in Event #8 earlier this week, Crain will be looking to go a few places better when the finale kicks off tomorrow.

The American pro’s task won’t be an easy one though as he’ll be sat across from fellow big stack, Allen Cunningham. Indeed, while Crain’s 620,000 chips allow him some room for error, Cunningham’s 452,000 chip stack will certainly pose a threat to Crain’s chances.
