Ben Mayhew Heads GUKPT Cardiff

Friday, 4 July 2014

Ben Mayhew is the man to beat after a quiet opening flight at GUKPT Cardiff.

Just 24 players were at the tables when play commenced but by the time six levels of late entry had ended that number had been boosted to 53.

Feeling a little under the weather, Mayhew originally deregistered from the £500+£50 event but eventually decided to soldier on. It proved to be a wise decsision as by the close of play he'd turned his starting stack of 20,000 chips into 94,500.

Only 21 other survived the nine day 1a levels with Warren Jones, Chris Williams and Ersin Yetisir all building big stacks.

The chip leaders after day 1a are as follows:

Ben Mayhew 94500
Warren Jones 87700
Chris Williams 82000
Ersin Yetisir 79700
Dan Clark 69000
Ralph David 60500
Rob Quinn 59300
Matt Padfield 56400
Emyr Lewis 53700
Mick Corrigan 47900

With 147 players needed on day 1b to hit the guarantee it looks like an overlay could be I the offing so if you're anywhere near the Welsh capital, get to the G Casino at the Red Dragon Centre.
