Ben Jones wins GUKPT Bolton

Monday, 23 July 2012

It was a case of trying to keep up with the Joneses at GUKPT Bolton this week as Ben Jones pocketed the £17,390 Main Event first prize. Jones outlasted a field of 114 runners in the three-day, six max tournament with notables Steve Holden and Bluff Europe columnist Ben Jackson also making the money.

Jones, a six-max online specialist, went into heads up play with a ten to one chip lead over Dave Wearing and sealed his biggest live victory to date after just 15 minutes when his AJ held against Wearing's QJ.

The Main Event field, which was almost double that of the most recent GUKPT event once again showed what an appetite there is for short-handed tournament action in the live arena. The crowds were out in force throughout the week though with over 1,000 players taking to the tables during the festival.

The in the money finishers were as follows:

1st Ben Jones £17,390
2nd Dave Wearing £12,260
3rd Nigel Booth £7,700
4th Chris Hughes £4,840
5th Liam Hooks £3,990
6th Mattia Ghera £2,850
7th Steve Holden £2,280
8th Jonathan Kubben Quinonez £1,710
9th Ben Jackson £1,420
10th Philip Mooring £1,280
11th Barry Cooper £1,280

The GUKPT heads to Coventry next for it's massive £100 Goliath tournament as well as a £1,000 Main Event. Qualify for both online at Blue Square Poker with a first deposit bonus of up to $500.
