In America, an executive chef won the Foxwoods Celebrity Chef Charity Poker Tournament, which took place during the Second Annual Foxwoods Food And Wine Festival on Sunday.
Franklin Becker works as an executive chef at Brasserie in New York City and walked away as the winner of the event held in Mashantucket, Connecticut. His purse of $15,000 will be donated to Autism Speaks, a national organization dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism.
Last week’s Foxwoods Food And Wine Festival drew a crowd of over 5,200 people who enjoyed three days of festivities including celebrity chef demonstrations and book signings, wine and spirits seminars, tasting events and gala dinners. Organisers stated that next year's event would be held at the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods, opening early next year adjacent to the nearby Foxwoods Resort Casino.
'I knew I was in good shape when I was dealt that straight flush,' said Becker. 'It was great to be a part of this year's Foxwoods Food And Wine Festival and even better to be able to participate in this poker tournament for charity. I will have to come back and defend my title as the reigning champion next year.'
Ming Tsai, chef and co-owner of Blue Ginger in Wellesley, Massachusetts, finished second and won $10,000 for the Cam Neely Foundation in Boston while David Rabin, owner of New York City's Lotus club, finished in third and donated his $5,000 prize to New York Cares and The Innocence Project charities.
