One of the names which has been with poker for as long as the likes of Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim, Billy Baxter is one of the pioneering card players in the infancy of the Las Vegas poker scene. While the young internet prodigies are springing up left, right and centre, Baxter has reminded everyone that the old school players are still a force to contend with after he won two side events at the Five Star World Poker Classic.
Baxter’s first win came in Event #6 which was a $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament. Outlasting 148 other players to net almost $150,000, the win was clearly not enough for the iconic stalwart, who went on to win Event #12 a few days later. The seniors no-limit hold’em event earned Baxter $139,000, taking his overall earnings at the Five Star Poker Classic to just under $300,000.
