Over the past seven days I’ve been given $1,400. That doesn’t happen too often but I had better start getting used to it. The Bad Beat sponsorship deal that MyPokerLab have set up for me gives me $200 a day – well done, maths whizzes – to play games up to $0.1/$0.2 NL. If I lose more than $100 I have to stop for the day and if I lose the whole thing THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES! Probably.

Well, fortunately so far I’ve only lost three figures once. Unfortunately, I have not yet won three figures. I’m still in the red but at least my graph has reached plateau and stopped declining. Fortunately, my non-showdown winnings are high which is good. I’m also a few buy-ins under EV so as Ziigmund would say; no big deal, whatever.

I’ve not had much of a chance to catch up with my mentor, Richard “strummer9” Herbert, owing to aforementioned illness etcetera. I did find the one hour we spent on Skype and a screenviewer software really helpful though so I’m looking forward to more coaching and strategy talks over the next couple of months.

So, yeah, overall I’m down so far but it’s not apparently all about profitability. You are also graded using the MyPokerLab software on stuff like hand selection, position, blind play, post-flop aggressiveness (I got an A for that) and other categories. My problem is that it’s geared towards 6-max play and I’ve had a lot of 3- and 4-handed games going so my VPIP/PFR is like 48/45. It’s saying I play too many hands.
