BLOG – GSN’s High Stakes Poker season 7

Wednesday, 27 October 2010

All we know is that it’s happening. Gabe Kaplan and Kara Scott will be returning to our screens but, more importantly, so will the best players in the world. High Stakes Poker season seven will begin filming in November which means that by March we should be watching new episodes. Tom “durrrr” Dwan will probably run all over the table again, unless Phil Ivey is there to stop him.

Some of the best moments in televised poker occurred last season, particularly in a huge hand between the aforementioned players when Ivey spent a full twelve minutes (fortunately they didn’t televise all twelve) thinking about calling durrrr’s $200,000 plus bet on the river with just a pair of sixes on a king-queen-jack high board. With all that has happened in the last year, though, will we see any new faces for 2011?

Well, obviously Isildur1 has been the breakthrough high stakes player of 2010 but I think it’s a safe bet that he won’t be showing his face for the cameras and outing himself any time soon. Another player who could potentially join the action for the first time is Daniel “jungleman12” Cates, though whether or not he will be 21 by November is up for debate.

Sam Farha has been notably absent from proceedings but then again with celebrities and businessmen like Allen Meltzer in there he’s not needed. Incidentally, I find it quite difficult to actually look at Meltzer for an extended period of time so hopefully he won’t be back.

Will Phil Ivey return? Who knows – last year marked only his second appearance on High Stakes Poker but that’s probably because a $300/$600 game is too small for him. We can only hope that he’ll see the +EV (for him, what game isn’t?) and make a third outing.
