The focus of the poker world turns to the Southern Hemisphere this month for the 2011 Aussie Millions which gets under way in Melbourne later today.

A total of 20 championship events are scheduled throughout January, beginning with a AU$1,100 No Limit Hold'em event to kick things off tonight. The feature attraction is the five-day, AU$10,600 Main Event which starts on 23rd January. Other highlights in a stacked line up include the AU$100,000 high roller challenge event, the AU$5,300 PLO Championship, a $10,500 mixed game and a cash game where the minimum buy-in is AU$200,000.

Home favourite Tyron Krost won last year's Main Event, pocketing AU$2m after outlasting a field of 746 players. The youngster joined the likes of Gus Hansen, Tony Bloom and Peter Costa in the Aussie Millions winner's enclosure.
