Aussie Millions continues to pay out the cash as the Main Event approaches the final table

Thursday, 22 January 2009

Thanks to the Australians being about ten hours ahead of Bluff towers, we’re forced to report as the action takes place. What we can tell you is occurring as we write this piece, however, is Annette Obrestad’s deep run in the $10,500 Main Event.

Patrik Antonius, Scotty Nguyen and Michael McDonald all busted earlier today. However, the 29 players left include online pro Richard Ashby and 2007 WSOPE winner Annette Obrestad, currently third in chips.

In other events, 2006 Aussie Millions champion Lee Nelson proved he’s no one-trick pony by storming to victory in the $1,100 Pot-Limit Omaha event. He adds just over $30,000 to his $2m+ live tournament winnings.

David “Chino” Rheem is running super-hot at the moment – after final-tabling the 2008 WSOP Main Event and winning $1.7m in the process, he took down a WPT event for $1.5m and now has won $15,000 for making another final table, this time in the $3,000 PLO with rebuys event. Nice running, Chino!

Oh, and Bluff Europe favourite John Tabatabi won the $5,300 heads-up event. The Year of the Pro continues. John got it in ahead with A7 vs the KT of Alec Torelli, which held up to net him a $60,000 payday. He’s done alright since coming second to Annette in the 2007 WSOPE.
