Ashton Griffin wins NAPT Venetian $25k High Roller

Friday, 26 February 2010

The PokerStars North American Poker Tour's event at the Venetian cardroom, Las Vegas, was a roaring success all-round; highlighted by the presence of an incredible $25,000 buy-in, high roller bounty shootout event.

In the end the event was taken down by online pro Ashton Griffin, who confessed to not sleeping before the final table - he didn't want to risk sleeping just a few hours and missing the play, he said. Instead, he fired up some online poker and got stuck in. Well, it worked.

Naps between blind levels - hell, naps between hands - evidently helped keep Griffin charged up enough to get through a final table of solid players to face Hoyt Corkins mano-a-mano. He outkicked Corkins on the final hand when they both flopped top pair.

For his win, Griffin takes home a tidy payday of $560,000. This works out as $75,000 for his first table win, $30,000 in bounties and $455,000 for taking down the whole shebang. Nice. The bounty and shootout structure of this event means that the paydays are a little out of alignment with the places, but we assure you this is correct:

1st - $560,000: Ashton Griffin
2nd - $100,000: Hoyt Corkins
3rd - $95,000: Joe Cassidy
4th - $215,000: Scott Seiver
5th - $95,000: Faraz Jaka
6th - $90,000: Brett Richey
7th - $85,000: Peter Eastgate
