Ashton Griffin Heads PCA Main Event

Wednesday, 9 January 2013

The two opening flights of the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event are in the book with 500 of the 987 entrants making it through to Day 2. Ashton Griffin is the man out in front followed by Michael Mizrachi and Greg Mueller.

As expected there are plenty of notables names still in contention for a bumper pay day including new Team PokerStars pro Jake Cody, Liv Boeree, Dan Smith, Carlos Mortensen, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu.

Perhaps the most famous person left in the field doesn't even have poker as a profession though. Multiple Olympic swimming gold medallist Michael Phelps enjoyed a great opening day, finishing in 11th on the leader board.

987 buy-ins means a prize pool of $9,573,900 with 144 players making the money. The winner is set to walk away with a first prize of $1,859,000.

The Day 1B chip leaders were as follows:

1st Ashton Griffin 253,700
2nd Michael Mizrachi 216,900
3rd Greg Mueller 181,100
4th Simon Higgins 181,100
