Armed robbery outside Newcastle casino

Friday, 22 February 2013

Police are searching for a pair of armed raiders who stole a substantial amount of cash from a security van outside the Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle yesterday afternoon.

Two men threatened a security guard with a shotgun before making off with the money in a stolen white 4x4 which was later found abandoned in Gateshead.

The exact amount of money taken has not been revealed but a spokesperson for the Rank Group, which owns the Grosvenor Casino, told the BBC, "We can confirm that there was an incident outside the Grosvenor Casino Newcastle. This is being investigated by the police, so we are unable to comment any further.

"Our number one priority is the safety of our employees and customers and we can confirm that no-one was injured in this incident."
