Tuesday, 27 January 2009

Fabian Ortiz, 39, has become the first and only Latin-American to win a PokerStars LAPT title after his victory in the inaugural Chile event. Ortiz is a former disco dancer but now takes to the tables rather than the floor.

“Fabian Ortiz’s win demonstrates the growth of poker as a Latin American sport”, said LAPT President Glenn Cademartori. “This is our first event where the majority of the field was made up of Latin American players. We expect many more local champions as this sport continues to grow in popularity in the region.”

Ortiz won $141,426 for taking down the event. The field included Humberto Brenes and Andre Akkari. The next stop of the LAPT is Punta del Este, Uruguay.
