Antonio Esfandiari leads WPT Five Diamond

Monday, 6 December 2010

After a third day of play the money bubble burst at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and just 54 players remain in the World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classic $10,000 event. Unusually, of the 426 entrants a round 100 were paid which means that all the players remaining are in the money.

Ali Eslami was unfortunate enough to bust in 101st place and that sparked off a slew of eliminations to halve the field as Hoyt Corkins, John Juanda, Chau Giang, Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey and Johnny Chan all hit the rail before the end of play.

However, it is still a star-studded field with none other than Victory Poker Pro and previous WPT Champion Antonio Esfandiari ; the only player to have racked up over a million in chips and seeking his second WPT title.

Right behind him are Doug Lee and Vanessa Rousso with Freddy Deeb, Bryn Kenney, Jonathan Little, Doyle Brunson and Sorel Mizzi all making the top fifteen in the chip counts. Today the field will be playing down to a final table in the event that has crowned several established players – Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Daniel Alaei and David “Chino” Rheem.
