Antonio Dieguez Rodriguez wins Slovenian leg of the PokerStars Eureka Poker Tour

Wednesday, 18 May 2011

When Antonio Dieguez Rodriguez finished second in the opening event of the PokerStars Eureka Tour in Prague in March he could have been forgiven for thinking that he'd missed his chance of a big tournament win.

Well perseverance paid dividends for the Spaniard who only had to wait a matter of weeks to go one better than his runner placing in Prague. Rodriguez outlasted a field of over 200 runners in Nova Gorica, Slovenia to pocket a first prize of €40,100.

It wasn't quite chip and a chair territory at the start of the final table for Rodriguez but it wasn't far off, returning as he did seventh out of eight with fewer than nine big blinds. A timely double up put him back in contention and he didn't look back from there, eventually sealing the win when his middle pair held up against Plamen Todorov's overcard and nut flush draw.

It's been quite the few months for Rodriguez who won an Estrellas Poker Tour event in Malaga, Spain for €81,500 in between his Eureka Tour appearances.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st - Antonio Dieguez Rodriguez, Spain, €40,010
2nd - Plamen Todorov, Bulgaria, €24,500
3rd - Franco Recchia, Italy, €13,800
4th - Dorde Jovanovic, Serbia, €11,000
5th - Aleksandar Kaludercic, Bosnia Herzegovina, €9,250
6th - SimonAndrei, Romania, €7,700
7th - Viliyan Petleshkov, Bulgaria, €6,250
8th - Senadin Cosic, Bosnia Herzegovina, €4,700

The next event on the Eureka Poker Tour is the €800 Eureka Bulgaria which takes place at the Golden Sands resort in Varna from 23rd to 26th June. Qualifiers are exclusively running at PokerStars. Sign up here.
