Anthony Ruberto wins WPT Jacksonville for $325,928

Wednesday, 23 November 2011

Anthony Ruberto has won the WPT Jacksonville event, netting over $300k for beating a field of 393 players. He began the final table as the chip leader by quite some margin and held that lead for almost all of six-handed to heads-up play.

He wound up heads-up against Sam Soverel with a near 5:1 chip lead after eliminating Lisa Hamilton in third place. While Soverel reduced that deficit to nearly 2:1 at one stage, he could not recover from the stack sizes.

In the final hand, Ruberto raised to 200k and Soverel moved all-in for just over two million. Ruberto made the call after a count of the stacks and turned over a dominating K-J to Soverel’s K-7. Soverel hit a seven on the river, but Ruberto’s jack had paired on the flop.

With that, Ruberto took down the WPT Jacksonville event and took home a cheque for $325,928; he also wins a seat in the $25,000 WPT Championship event in Las Vegas.
