Annette Obrestad on top at EPT Budapest

Wednesday, 29 October 2008

In an event which was initially capped at 500 runners, the organisers of the EPT Budapest once again expanded the field to accommodate extra players. Eventually 540 players entered, with an all too familiar name leading the way when the day's play came to a close.

The tournament had a tough looking field, with WSOP bracelet winners Katja Thater and Thomas Bihl joined by Luca Pagano, Marcel Luske, Arnaud Mattern and Valdemar Kwaysser. They were joined by 2007 WSOPE Main Event champion Annette Obrestad, who finished the day with over 100,000 chips - enough to be the overnight chip leader.

Those who won't be returning for Day 2 include Luske, Nicholas Levi, Barny Boatman and Dave Colclough. Meanwhile, Obrestad is being chased down by a pack of talented pros, including Mattern, Sorel Mizzi and Paul Testud.

Chip counts from the end of Day 1a:

Annette Obrestad - 101,300
Arnaud Mattern - 90,600
Sorel Mizzi - 74,950
Paul Testud - 66,500
Ionel Anton - 64,800
Jari Pekka Juhola - 61,700
Robert Andersson - 52,600
Brooke Hoerr - 51,600
William Fry - 50,900
Lajos Laszlo - 50,700
