A recent run of bad luck at the tables sent Anna Wroblewski job hunting. She took a $10/hr job in order to meet her bills. It must have been a bad experience because she has turned her game right around, and won the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Open yesterday.
Not one to waste precious buy-in money on bills, Wroblewski was able to cover the $3,000 to enter the tournament, and once it was over concluded, “I’m just so happy, I can’t stop smiling.”
The win is well deserved, not least because of her classic poker biography – ‘leaving home young to sneak into casinos under age, returning home, almost going broke, nearly giving up faith, trying a ‘real job’, getting the win crucial for entry into some big event and then powering through to victory.’ The difference here is that Wroblewski has compressed all of this into two years rather than the usual twenty.
Nor is the win a matter of getting lucky; the event had 324 other players, many of whom are serious pros.
