Having spent most of the year on top of the leader board, you couldn’t blame Soren Kongsgaard if he had cleared a space on his Danish mantelpiece for the Mansion Poker European Player of the Year title.

Having spent most of the year on top of the leader board, you couldn’t blame Soren Kongsgaard if he had cleared a space on his Danish mantelpiece for the Mansion Poker European Player of the Year title. In a last minute dash that included a win at an event on 15th December, it was German pro Andreas Krause who won the award, knocking the European Rookie of the Year into second spot.
Krause won a €1,500 event in Germany for €34,000 on the 15th, which was enough to see him win the title. He has had an exception year, winning five tournaments from the 12 final tables he made across Europe, winning over €300,000 along the way. He has also shined to playing in Austria, having won four and final tabled at five other tournaments in that country alone.
It was a good year for British players, even if none of them broke into the top three. Dave Smith, winner of the GUKPT Player of the Year and Championship event, finished in tenth, with Joseph Grech (8th), Mazhar Nawab (7th) and Dave Colclough finishing in the top ten as well. Certainly the form-man of British poker in 2007 has been Julian Thew, and he rounded off a stellar year by coming 4th in the rankings here. Annette Obrestad finished in 5th place after winning the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event and coming second in the EPT Dublin.
