Andreas Krause wins Full Tilt Merit Cyprus Classic

Thursday, 26 August 2010

After six days of highly competitive action a winner has been confirmed at the Full Tilt Merit Classic in Cyprus.

Andreas Krause, a regular on the European tournament circuit claimed the biggest win of his career after outlasting a 181 runner field that included the likes of David Benyamine, Sorel Mizzi and November Nine quartet Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi, John Dolan, Filippo Candio and John Racener.

Full Tilt Red Pro Van Marcus was the favourite going into the six man final table but busted out in third after his shortstacked shove with A6 ran into Mathieu Clavet's AJ. A Jack on the flop sealed the deal leaving the young Frenchman to battle it out with Krause.

The German had a two to one chip advantage going into heads up play but Clavet got lucky to take the lead. His tournament had looked over holding A5 against Krause's pocket 8s on a Q939 board but an ace on the river put him right back in contention. The reprieve was to be short lived though after a flopped straight gave Krause the initiative again. The end came soon after and was a classic race with Karuse's pocket 5s holding up against Clavet's A7.

Krause, who has reached a number of WSOP final tables, pocketed $415,780 with the young Frenchman taking $285,850 for his runner up finish.
