Monday, 11 January 2010

Tragically, poker professional Amir Vahedi has died aged just 46 following complications involving blood-sugar levels relating to his diabetes. The poker world has been rocked by the unexpected death of the WSOP bracelet-winner.

Vahedi served in the Iranian armed forces against Iraq before moving to America and later becoming a poker professional. He made the legendary final table of the WSOP Main Event in 2003, finishing 6th after being eliminated by Sam Farha. He had over $3,000,000 in tournament winnings and a WSOP bracelet.

As well as being a highly accomplished player, Vahedi was also a much sought after tutor, teaching the likes of Hollywood actor Ben Affleck how to play poker.

"Amir was a gentle and kind man who always made me laugh. I will miss him terribly. RIP Amir,” wrote Full Tilt Pro shortstacker Mark Seif.
Vahedi died in Las Vegas on January 8.
