Jason Mercier is well known to us in Europe, having won around $2.7m of his $3m career earnings outside of the US. His European run has been sensational including a win in San Remo, a final table in Barcelona and a high-rollers’ victory in London.

However, this, his first big US win, was as easy as any of the others, seemingly. Mercier destroyed a 809-strong field to take down the bracelet and $237,415 for a first-place prize in WSOP Event #5, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha.


In the final hand both Mercier and eventual runner-up Steven Burkholder got it in on a JJ6 flop. Burkholder had Mercier outkicked holding AAJ7 to his QJ82 but Mercier’s Q hit the turn, making him a full house and securing victory as the river blanked.
