The opening leg of the 2014 Genting Poker Series got under way yesterday with 186 players taking to the tables at Star City in Birmingham.

After 10 levels of hard fought action just 47 were remaining with UK tournament reg Ali Mallu leading the way at the close. Mallu finished the day with 296,000, well in front of J Mik (269,500) and Ben Mayhew (234,800) who were the only other players to crack the 200,000 barrier.

Defending champion Julian Thew's title defence got off to a fine start with the Sky Poker pro finishing just outside the top ten with 136,000.

Other notables who've secured their day 2 seat include Sunny Chattha (92,000), Gabriel Tuna (91,000) and Kuljinder Sidhu (79,400).

Our own Ben Jackson was one of many familiar faces to bust out yesterday. Joining Ben on the rail were dad Paul, recent EPT Deauville finalist Alex Goulder, Tom Hall and Chaz Chattha. They'll have the chance to fire another bullet when the action resumes this lunchtime.
