Albert Sapiano wins Genting Poker Series London

Monday, 2 April 2012

Albert Sapiano has won the latest leg of the Genting Poker Series which took place at the Fox Poker Club over the weekend. Organisers were confident that they would break the £100,000 guarantee but even they must have been a little surprised that the eventual field was a huge 580 runners who created a prize pool of £232,000.

The Palm Beach regular Sapiano took the over £50,000 of that bumper prize pool, navigating his way through a final table that included Ghassan Chehbi, Robin Dhinsa and Kirit Patel to set up a heads up contest with Callum Smith.

Sapiano went into two-handed play with a two to one chip deficit but got lucky with A7 against AK to swing the momentum back his way. It was all over after just ten hands, when Smith's AQ shove on a KQJ flop ran into Sapiano's K10. The turn and river were blanks, leaving Smith to settle for £32,940, still a fine result consider he was down to just two big blinds mid way through the final table.

Other notables to go deep included Surinder Sunar, Genting Poker Series leg one winner Ruslan Vlasov and recent UK Omaha Series champion David Lloyd.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Albert Sapiano £48,560 plus £1600 Grand Final Seat
2 Callum Smith £32,940
3 Kirit Patel £23,200
4 Robin Dhinsa £18,560
5 Neil McCulloch £14,500
6 Stephen Hollinshead £11,600
7 Elzbieta Biesse-Piechota £9,280
8 James Thomson £6,960
9 Ghassan Chehbi £4,640

The Genting Club Fountain Park Edinburgh is the venue for the next leg of the Genting Poker Series. Qualifiers for the event, which runs from Wed 30th May to Sun 3rd June are up and running at Genting Poker.

The next major tournament action at the Fox is the London Calling festival which culminates in a £500+£40 Main Event which starts at 2pm on Saturday 7th April.
