Alan Meltzer leaves a $1.5m tip

Poker players are used to leaving tips at the table (in America at least) and one high stakes player has managed to make two of his staff extremely wealthy courtesy of a gift from beyond the grave.

Music mogul and high stakes reg Alan Meltzer left a cool $1m to his driver and $500,000 to doorman following his sudden death in October of last year. That equates to around 15% of Meltzer's estate.

54-year-old Jean Laborde, Meltzer's former chauffeur told the New York Post, “I don’t know what to do exactly with the money, but one thing I know for sure — every year, I’m going to bring the guy some flowers at his grave. He was such a nice guy. He left me money, but it’s not a good deal for me because it means he’s no longer here.”

Meltzer, who appeared on High Stakes Poker alongside Tom 'Durrrr' Dwan and Doyle Brunson, divorced from his wife, Diana, in 2010 without any children. Diana didn't seem quite as impressed with her ex-husband's bequest, telling the New York Post, “I could care less. If he wants to give it to the bums, he can give it to the bums. He could f--k a nun. I couldn’t give a s--t. He can give his money to whoever he wants. We’re divorced. The man is dead.”
