The majority of us would surely be happy with a few beers with friends and maybe a new sweater for our birthday. Not so Alan Goehring, who celebrated his birthday by winning $2.4 million at the LA Poker Classic at Commerce Casino.

The majority of us would surely be happy with a few beers with friends and maybe a new sweater for our birthday. Not so Alan Goehring, who celebrated his birthday by winning $2.4 million at the LA Poker Classic at Commerce Casino.
Not only did he take home the largest prize in World Poker Tour history, he also bagged himself a $25,000 seat in the WPT championship. Having been the first day’s chip leader, Goehring went into the final table of six players in fourth with $1.9 million. He then promptly put all the pressure on himself by losing half his stack in the first two hands but stayed cool to double up a couple of hours later and get himself back in the game.
After a few hours grind, it came to heads-up play against Daniel Quach. Goehring eventually took the championship by a whisker, officials having to count the stacks just to be sure.
Certainly there are worse ways of celebrating your birthday.
