Aisling Collins wins PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open III

Thursday, 28 May 2009

Aisling Collins is better off to the tune of $50,000 after winning the PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open III yesterday. The Sky Poker employee qualified for the final after winning the runner up turbo qualifier and took that excellent form into the 7-runner final.

The big names of Annette Obrestad, Sandra Naujoks and Jennifer Tilly were all eliminated in the heats leaving a final table comprising former finalists Maria Demetriou and Jen Mason , multiple GUKPT winner Shana Caseletto plus Japan’s Kim Wooka, Cat O’Neil and Sweden’s Cecilia Nordenstam.

Collins sealed the win by beating Kim Wooka heads up. All the chips went in with Collins holding Jd5d and Wooka Qh10d on a JcKd9d board. The turn brought a 5th diamond giving Collins a flush to beat Wooka’s straight. The final queen on the river changed nothing and gave Collins the title and a cheque for $50,000.

Collins becomes the third person to win the World Women's Open title joining Beverley Pace and Soraya Homan who won the previous two events. The seven heats plus the final will be televised on Five later this year.

The final positions and pay outs were as follows:

1. Aisling Collins $50,000

2. Kim Wooka $20,000

3. Shana Caseletto $12,000

4. Cecelia Nordenstam $10,000

5. Maria Demetriou $8,000

6. Cat O’Neil $5,000

7. Jen Mason $3,000
