Advertising Standards Authority bans poker advert

Thursday, 11 June 2009

Swank Poker (now Red Cherry Poker) has had a slap on the wrist from advertising regulators following a recent raunchy ad campaign. The Advertising Standards Authority upheld complaints from the Remote Gambling Association deeming that an advert linked gambling with sexual success.

The first offending ad featured a woman holding her breasts accompanied by the caption “will you hold this pair for me?”. A second suggested that Swank Poker offered “the very best in poker action coupled with the finest erotic entertainment that the civilised world has to offer" and that players could expect “serious erotic action”.

The ASA ruled that the adverts did contravene the advertising code and that they should not appear again. Swank Poker denied the allegations saying that its adverts only offered things that were legally sold and that it was clearly stated that the site was aimed at adults only.
