A total of 76 players came back for Day 2 of the Pokerstars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau championship event, all aiming to take down the $222,640 first place prize. Amongst the players still remaining were two former WSOP Main Event Champions in the form of Scotty Nguyen and Joe Hachem, along with superstar players Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Bill Chen and Hevad Khan.
It didn’t last too long for another household name though as Isabelle Mercier ran her pocket kings into pocket aces. That was the spark for a quarter of the field to be knocked out in a crazy first hour of play. Scotty Nguyen’s quest for the crown came to a halt after his AK couldn’t outdraw Markus Duberg’s QQ.
One of Pokerstars newest recruits, Hevad Khan, put in a respectable performance after cashing for $3,228 in 33rd place. His final hand saw Joe Hachem limp on the button, Khan move in from the small blind only to get insta-called by the big blind who had woken up with pocket kings against Khan’s AQ.
Once the final was decided, we ended up with one of the former WSOP Champions (Joe Hachem, 325,000) along with a leading online player (Grospellier, 467,000) and a female pro keen to notch one up for the women (Liz Lieu, 384,000). Overnight chip leader is Dinh Le of England on 657,000.
