ANZPT runner-up gives all his prize money to his wife

Wednesday, 7 September 2011

We could understand giving the wife some of our prize money if we won a big score but all of it? That's precisely what Matty Yates did after his second place finish in the recent ANZPT Snowfest. It wasn't an insignificant sum of money either as Mrs Yates pocketed AU$60,000 (around £39,000).

And the reason for this display of generosity? A very strange agreement between husband and wife. Mr Yates, who was runner up behind Germany's Marcel Schreiner in Queenstown, told the Otago Daily Times, “It's a deal. She's not allowed to complain [about] me playing poker and she gets all the winnings.”

That must be some serious complaining if it costs the best part £40k to keep her quiet.
