AJ Jejelowo wins WSOP-Circuit $10k Regional Championship

Monday, 23 May 2011

The final World Series of Poker Circuit event before the Million Dollar National Championship freeroll on Friday came to an end with the fourth $10,000 Regional Championship event. AJ Jejelowo had to defeat just 74 others in his run to take home the $235,956 first prize.

A final table deal ensured the bubble moved up one spot – from eight to nine – and got everyone at the final table a $12,000 payday, as well as a seat in the $1,000,000 Freeroll this weekend and a spot on television. With that said it’s a massive surprise that the event didn’t attract more than 75 players.

Nevertheless, nine of the players it did attract included Allie Prescott, Allen Kessler and Matt Waxman. Jejelowo wound up beating Gary Friedlander heads-up after going into play with a 3-1 chip lead. Despite valiant efforts, Friedlander could not overcome the deck despite making a decent dent in the chip counts – he held A-K to Jejelowo’s A-9 but a nine on the turn locked it up.

The $1,000,000 National Championship Freeroll takes place this weekend at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas with a $300,000 first prize up for grabs. Until then, here are the final table spots and payouts from the final Regional Championship:

1.AJ Jejelowo $235,956
2.Gary Friedlander $145,422
3.Harry Cullen $95,214
4.Allie Prescott $66,202
5.Scott Lipshutz $48,673
6.Allen Kessler $37,736
7.Matt Waxman $30,794
8.Kunal Patel $25,401
9.Jeremy Gaubert $12,000
