Thanks to a classic failure of bureaucracy, two-dozen gamblers will tonight resume a game of Texas Hold ‘Em in Monument, Colorado, a year after they were the subjects of a wildly over-the-top raid. Police burst in on their game at a restaurant touting guns and shouting for every player to put their hands up. Unfortunately, the Police Chief, Dale Smith, was so eager to get his men that he forgot to inform the District Attorney’s office.
One of the players involved include Town Council Member Trish Flake, who rather than agreeing to have the charges dropped in return for a charity payment, took her case to the top and had them dismissed, making a fool of Chief Smith. Before they resume their game tonight however, they’ll have to sort through the evidence bags that the police have returned. Turns out the cops were so thorough that they put each individual chip into a clear bag.
