888.com announce 2009 Poker Ashes

Monday, 30 March 2009

The news that Shane Warne is heading to England for the 2009 Ashes will have been greeted with dismay by batsmen throughout the land. Thankfully the blonde haired nemesis of English cricket will be appearing at the poker table rather than on the cricket field in a 5 match Poker Ashes series.

The event, coinciding with the Aussie cricket tour of England this summer, will see a team of 4 former players and an online qualifier from each country battle it out over a 5 match televised series. The Aussie team looks set to include former captain Allan Border and batsman Damien Martyn and will be managed by Tony G.

A typically ebullient Warne said “Aussies don’t like to be beaten by the Poms – whatever the sport. And I can tell you the English Poker Ashes team will face a stern test from our boys!”

The England team hasn’t been announced yet but Ed Giddins, Min Patel and Gladstone Small have all had success on TV and are likely to be in the frame.

All prize money will go to charity.
