Just 24 of the 811 starters are still in contention for the €850,000 first prize at EPT Barcelona with Tomeu Gomila leading the chip counts.

The Spaniard will return today with a stack 2,547,000 putting him just ahead of Raul Mestre on 2,363,000. Other notables still in the hunt include Eugene Katchalov on 1,452,000 and Belgian pro Matthias de Meulder on 1,376,000.

British hopes are over now after Craig Hopkins was eliminated in 48th place for €16,000. Other Brits to make the money included former UKIPT Main Event winner and Poker in the Park lecturer Sam Razavi, Jack Ellwood, Nigel Goldman, Balhar Singh and Ka Kan Lau. High profile names to join them on the rail yesterday were the likes of Vanessa Selbst, Victor Ramdin, David Sonelin and former Wimbledon champ Boris Becker.

The action resumes at lunchtime today.
