One More Day Until November Nine - Ivey Still Going Strong

One More Day Until November Nine - Ivey Still Going Strong

Wednesday, 15 July 2009

It has taken a week of play including four Day Ones to whittle down a monstrous - although smaller than last year - field of 6,494 players to just 27; three tables of nine. However, we have finally got there and one third of these players will be guaranteed at least $1,000,000 by making the November Nine.

The day began with the elimination of Prahlad “Spirit Rock” Friedman, another pro who made a very deep run in this event. From then on it was a flurry of eliminations to get from 64 players to 27.

PokerStars Pro and original November Niner Dennis Philips couldn't make a dream of two consecutive WSOP Main Event final tables come true as he bowed out in 45th place, taking home just under $180,000. Also eliminated were Tom Schneider and Joe Sebok. Darvin Moon holds the chip lead for the second day in a row with just over $20 million chips.

One man still going is the legend that is Phil Ivey. With a $11.35m stack he is sitting pretty in fourth place and stands a more than fair chance of making the final table, or even more amazingly, winning the whole shebang. A third bracelet of 2009 coming in the Main Event would be a perfect round-off to his phenomenal WSOP.
