November Nine Profile - Kevin Schaffel

Monday, 10 August 2009

Divorced father of two graduate-age children Kevin Schaffel is the oldest player at the 2009 Main Event final table. Experience and wisdom could see the Florida resident make it all the way as he sits in a not-disrespectable 6th place with 12,390,000 in chips.

Schaffel will be sponsored by PokerStars at the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table and calls the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Hollywood, FL, his home casino.

Schaffel has a sense of risk/reward and gamble that has served him well, having operated several businesses prior to his fame after making this prestigious final table. In 2006, after his printing and direct mail businesses took a downturn, Kevin Schaffel increased the number of poker tournaments that he played and began moving around the country chasing the poker circuit.

He's not a first-timer - his first major tournament cash game in 2005 when he finished 42nd out of around 2,800 players in the 2004 WSOP Main Event won by Greg Raymer, a fellow PokerStars pro.

He has also cashed in two WPT Events, the 2008 Main Event and the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Since 1994 he has made over $168k in tournament cashes with no wins – there’s no reason he can’t make the WSOP Main Event his first.
