November Nine Profile - Eric Buchman

November Nine Profile - Eric Buchman

Tuesday, 21 July 2009

You probably haven’t heard of Eric Buchman. That is, you most likely hadn’t before he made the November Nine at the 2009 WSOP. However, despite that, he has actually been a figure on the poker tournament scene since 2002.

Prior to this (at least) $1.2m score he had amassed over $900,000 at WSOP, WPT and other events, so his accomplishment is no fluke. Buchman’s notable results prior to the 2009 Main Event are a win in the 2004 New England Poker Classic that netted him $275,400, a second place finish in a $1,500 Limit Hold’em bracelet event in the 2006 WSOP for $174,938, and another runners-up effort in the $5,000 buy-in Main Event at the WSOP Circuit event at Harrah’s Atlantic City, worth another $208,666.

“I’m really happy right now,” he told interviewers upon making the prestigious final table. “When I’m playing, I’m not going to get emotional because it’s not my style. If I win a big hand to survive, I’ll be happy. I know what reality is and I could have gotten knocked out of this tournament. If that happened, I would have been disappointed.”

Buchman has eight years experience as a professional tournament poker player and also has a commanding stack – on Day 8 he tripled up in a lot of non-showdown pots to arrive at the final table second in chips. With a $34.8m stack before him he’s looking to make more than the $1.2m paid out already.
