1,476 players returned for Day 2A at the Rio but after 12 hours of play only 630 remained. Eric Cloutier retained his chip lead from Day 1 and was joined past the 300,000 chip mark by seven others including Ed Perry, Brandon Demes and Greg Mueller.

Shane Warne, fresh from playing for the Rajasthan Royals against Middlesex at Lord’s on Monday night, continued his fine form finishing the day in 24th place. Chris Ferguson, Sorel Mizzi, Andy Black, Greg Raymer and Vitaliy Lunkin are all very handily placed, as is England’s Redmond Lee and Sky Poker presenter Kara Scott who is nursing a stack of 125,000.


Gus Hansen was one of the big names to bust out. He was joined on the rail by Mike Matusow, Gavin Smith, Barry Greenstein, Amarillo Slim and Bluff Europe Poker Academy instructor Phil Laak.


Play on Day 2B resumes at 6pm UK time today.
