John Kabbaj wins Event #45 $10,000 Pot Limit Hold Em

Friday, 26 June 2009

What better hand could you be holding when you want to seal the win than a pair of aces, especially when your heads up opponent is holding a pair of kings? That was the exact situation that fell to England’s John Kabbaj against Russian Kirill Gerasimov while heads up in the Pot Limit Hold Em Event.

The Russian raised 435,000 from the button and Kabbaj in the big blind called. The flop brought 7h4d3c. Kabbaj bet out for 400,000, Gerasimov raised exactly 1 million and Kabbaj pushed. Gerasimov called holding Kings and watched in horror as the Englishman turned over Aces. The turn and river helped neither player and Kabbaj could celebrate his first WSOP bracelet win.

Kabbaj outlasted a field of 275-runners to claim the first prize of $633,335. The unofficial fifth member of the Hendon Mob had already cashed in $5,000 PLO event and reached the final table in the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold Em and Pot Limit Omaha mixed event.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1. John Kabbaj - $633,335
2. Kirill Gerasimov - $391,369
3. Eric Baldwin - $259,534
4. Davidi Kitai - $183,638
5. JC Alvarado - $138,375
6. Jason Lester - $110,431
7. Eugene Todd - $93,085
8. Isaac Haxton - $82,668
9. Darryll Fish - $77,136
