Congressman Barney Frank Visits World Series of Poker

Tuesday, 7 July 2009

As announced by the man himself and the Poker Players’ Alliance, US congressman Barney Frank came to visit the World Series of Poker Main Event at the Rio on Day 1c, coming to say “shuffle up and deal” as well as some more useful things.

After kicking off the day’s events in the traditional manner, Frank took a tour of the Rio to see poker at its most popular before holding a press conference at 1pm to address some of the many issues plaguing poker today, particularly online.

He firstly said that the Obama administration may not have been behind the recent seizure of $30m of players’ funds by the Southern District of New York. However, he said he is working hard to find answers.

In a piece of good news - while Frank’s current proposed legislation (H.R. 2267) may not be heard in committee until September, it is a priority for Frank to push his companion legislation (H.R. 2266) that will delay the implementation of the UIGEA through 2010.
