Monday, 6 July 2009

137 players bought in for the third annual Ante Up For Africa Charity Event but in the end it was Alex Bolotin who emerged victorious. The winner donated half of his $176,000 winnings to the ENOUGH Project and International Rescue Committee, a gesture that was repeated by virtually all the players who made the money.

Hosts Annie Duke and Don Cheadle attracted a star-studded field that included Hollywood A listers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Seinfeld star Jason Alexander, Everybody Loves Raymond’s Brad Garrett, comedian Sarah Silverman and former Superman Dean Cain. There was also a strong sporting representation on view with Shane Warne and Mike Tyson in attendance. The poker community turned out in force too with Chris Ferguson, Greg Raymer, Erik Seidel, Tony G, Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch and many more playing.

Greg Raymer summed up the sentiments of most of the field by saying “The people this money is going to go to in Africa are some of the most troubled people in the world. They are facing the greatest difficulties, more than anyone can even imagine who live in this country. For us to put in some time and effort and money to help these people is a demonstration of the kindheartedness and dedication of people in the poker community.”

The top 10 finishers were as follows:

1. Alex Bolotin - $176,449
