HeadsUp Entertainment have announced the schedule for the 2008 Canadian Poker Open, which will take place in Calgary on 5th-9th March. Players from Canada are beyond are expected to attend with an aim to taking down a tournament or appear in the televised tournament, but the organisers have also remembered to do their bit for charity.
Event 1 in the series will be a charity event with 5% of the prize pool being donated to Breast Cancer Research. The buy in will be $500, and the number of entries to the freezeout tournament has been capped at 250.
Event 2 will be the main attraction in the week of poker, the $5,000 buy in heads-up tournament with a maximum field of 128. A number of leading international pros and celebrities have already confirmed their entres to the event, and it will broadcast in Canada and around the world.
The third event sees a $1,500 short-handed tournament with a 200 player maximum. Sure to be full of action, the short handed format is becoming increasingly popular, and if some of the pros from the main event go out early, this could be quite a tournament.
Event 4 is the $1,000 freezeout, and the last event is another freezeout, this time at $500. Both of these events are expected to attract upto 300 players.
'We are excited to be hosting this event in Calgary at the Deerfoot Casino,' said President and CEO Kelly B.
Kellner. 'Our last event attracted a world class field of competitors such as Antonio 'The Magician' Esfandiari, Andy Bloch, Nenad Medic and Huck Seed, World Series of Poker Main Event winner from 1996, as well as Canadian pros Greg 'FBT' Mueller and 'Yukon' Brad Booth.'
