Harrah’s Entertainment has set the date for the 38th annual World Series of Poker. Bracelet-hopefuls have until June 1 2007 to clear their diary and practice their play for what is widely regarded as the pinnacle of the poker calendar. The final table of the highly anticipated $10,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em World Championship will begin on July 17.
The event will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino and a complete schedule of events will be announced before the end of this year.
“The 2006 World Series of Poker was the best yet, but 2007 will be even better,” said World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “As a first step, we’ve moved the start date up and now we’re developing an expanded and well-rounded schedule of events for 2007 that will appeal to both professionals and amateurs.”
With a total gross prize pool of more than $171 million and in excess of 48,000 player registrations, the 37th annual World Series of Poker shattered every participation and prize money record for a live poker event. The top prize for the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em World Championship, commonly referred to as the Main Event, reached $12 million and was taken home by former celebrity agent Jamie Gold.
