12 left at Aussie Millions – Ivey the short stack

Friday, 27 January 2012

The action was brief at the Crown Casino in Melbourne overnight as the 26 Aussie Millions Main Event starters were quickly whittled down to a round dozen. Leading a tightly packed leader board at the close of play was Canadian pro Yann Dion on 2,670,000 followed by Bjorn Li on 2,471,000.

Phil Ivey was again the main attraction for the railbirds and the multiple WSOP bracelet winner battled his way through to the penultimate day. Ivey will have his work cut out if he wants to take the $1m plus first prize though, returning as the short stack with 699,000. That works out at 35 big blinds giving the American plenty of ammunition to cause some damage.

The other big story in this year's Main Event is Lee Nelson. The Kiwi is on course to become the first Aussie Millions double winner and returns slap, bang in the middle of the field with 1,651,00. Also returning are Dan Idema, Patrick Healy and Kenneth Wong.

Play will resume tomorrow until six players are eliminated with the last seven returning for the final table on Sunday.

The full chip counts are as follows:

1. Yann Dion – 2,670,000
