Just a week ago PokerStars announced the $2 Million Turbo Takedown, a tournament which would carry a 10,000 Frequent Player Point buy-in. This weekend saw 9,600 players take their chance, with 4,000 making money on their FPP investment.
The payout structure for the event was flattened, allowing the top 99 finishing players to all cash at least $1,000. In a final table which saw Qbgoose hold a slight lead over his competitors, the $200,000 first place prize was there for all to win.
The first player to hit the rail was oakblack, whose As-Qs couldn’t suck out on BleedBlue13’s Ah-Ks. It was after oakblack went out in ninth that mombasi started to make his move, knocking out a D.Nowitzki, mmmy17 and Karsten85 in that order.
Not satisfied with three on the bounce, mombasi applied the finishing touches to knock qbgoose out, although the damage was mainly done to the former chip leader in the hand before, when his Ah-Kd outdrew qbgoose’s pocket kings. Losing that hand left qbgoose on the brink of elimination, and the next hand mombasi nudged him out in fifth.
Fifteen minutes later, and mombasi continued to play the table assassin, sending TXSooner518 out in fourth place. Open raising with Qh-8d, the short-stacked TXSooner518 must have been hoping his Jh-9h were live cards when he reraised all in. He got his wish as mombasi made the call, but he was knocked out in 4th after the board ran out Jd-Kh-3d-Qs-7s. With this elimination and picking up a few more pots, mombasi carried a huge chip lead into heads-up play after tobededope knocked out BleedBlue33 in third.
The final hand of the tournament came after tobededope moved all in with Jd-9c, and again the J9 was behind the Kc-4c of mombasi. The board ended up bricking out, and mombasi’s king kicker claimed the victory and $200,000.
Final standings:
1. mombasi — $200,000
2. tobededope — $120,000
3. BleedBlue33 — $80,000
4. TXSooner518 — $65,000
5. qbgoose — $50,000
6. Karsten85 — $40,000
7. mmmy17 — $30,000
8. D.Nowitzki — $20,000
9. oakblack — $11,000
