Poker author Dan Harrington has been crowned champion of the month-long Legends Of Poker series and took home over $1.6 million.
Harrington outlasted some of poker’s biggest names at California’s Bicycle Casino to take the coveted title of 2007 WPT Legend of Poker as the $10,000 no-limit hold'em tournament wrapped on August 31.
Names such as Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Scotty Nguyen, Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang competed in the event in Los Angeles with Harrington, WSOP Player Of the Year Tom Schneider, seasoned professionals David ‘Dragon’ Pham, Mike McClain and Thu Nguyen and recent university graduate Jack Liu making up the final six.
The Legends main event began on August 25 with 485 players, a new record for entrants for the sixth consecutive year, and a record-setting prize pool of $4,607,500.
The final saw a heads-up match between Harrington and Pham lasting for nearly three hours with Harrington emerging as the victor and winning $1,600,365.
He was also awarded a seat into the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) $25,000 World Championship and a return ticket for the 2008 Legends Of Poker main event. Pham was awarded $800,185 and the whole event was filmed by WPT in front of a live audience for broadcast on America’s GSN network early next year.
