$50 Million Royal Flush?

$50 Million Royal Flush?

Wednesday, 15 January 2014

A new high stakes poker tournament with a royal twist will be taking place later this year if a recent press release it to be believed.

Despite being sounding somewhat farfetched, the man behind the tournament, David Chen, has stated that on March 30 a group of 48 players, including "members of the British, Danish, and Monaco royal families" will be taking part in a $1 million poker tournament.

Competing for a prizepool of $50 million, the Royal Poker Challenge supposedly meant to be taking place inside Sydney's Star Hotel and Casino and only those with a direct invitation will be allowed to play.

The press release goes on to state that the each of the royal representatives will be paid a "substantial appearance fee" which will then be donated to the charity of their choice.

The dreamers (and financial backers) behind this event appear to the Rainbow Company Group who deal in a number of commercial and construction projects, as well as philanthropic ventures.

Whether or not an event like this will actually take place remains to be seen, but if things do go down in Australia it will be interesting to see which members of the poker community line up with Europe's elite.
