Am vierten Tag des $10.000 No Limit Hold'em Championship Events der World Poker Tour (WPT) in Foxwoods kam der akute Spielerschwund bei der WPT so richtig zum Tragen.
Denn mit drei gespielten Levels war dies einer der kürzesten Tage in der Geschichte der WPT. Die Verantwortlichen hatten schon mit einer niedrigen Teilnehmerzahl gerechnet, als letzten Freitag, den 3. April 2009, das Event begonnen hatte. Dass es letztendlich nur 259 werden würden und der Sieger keine Million Dollar als Preisgeld bekommen würde, das war nicht vorhersehbar. Waren es letztes Jahr noch 346 Spieler gewesen, so der Rückgang dieses Jahr schon erschreckend. Das Pokerangebot wird auch in den USA immer größer und ein wenig bröckelt auch der Glanz vom WPT Event in Foxwoods.Und eben deshalb nimmt man eben nicht so gerne die lange Anreise in Kauf. Die Pokerbelegschaft wird von vielen bestenfalls als "ahnungslos" bezeichnet.Foxwoods war zwar schon immer schwer erreichbar und die Dealer sind nicht schlechter geworden, und dennoch ist die Teilnehmerzahl ins Bodenlose gefallen. Natürlich ist aber auch die PokerStars SCOOP eine Konkurrenz für das WPT Event in Foxwoods. Barry Greenstein, Jonathan Litte, Mike Matusow, Hoyt Corkins und Steve Brecher waren die Pros, die man auf diesen Event antreffen konnte. Leicht sollte es dennoch nicht werden, denn auch unter den letzten zehn Spielern sind noch durchweg bekannte Spieler mit dabei. Mike Matusow scheiterte an den Assen von Charles Marchese noch vor den Geldrängen und auch Steve Brecher überstand den Tag nicht heil. Als sich die Bubble näherte, wurde ein wenig verhaltener gespielt, dennoch aber beendete man mit nur 17 Spielern Tag 4.
